Birthday’s at altitude! Table all set for a surprise Peru Trek Birthday

On trek donkeys carry your main baggage, tents, food and camping equipment. You only carry a light day-pack. We only use reputable donkey drivers who ensure that donkeys are in good condition and are well cared for. Donkeys carry a maximum allowable weight of 40kgs

On climbing trips where there are high camps on the mountain porters carry most of the equipment & food, and you carry your own personal gear, sleeping bag and clothes.

Porters carry maximum 20kgs including their own equipment, and they are provided with good quality clothing, climbing equipment, tents and sleeping bags.

All drinking water is boiled and great care is taken with food preparation & hygiene to minimise risk of illness.

We only use gas for cooking – no fires. We remove all our rubbish and waste, use a toilet tent and bury toilet waste. We issue clients with a sealable plastic bag for their toilet paper where there is no toilet tent available

Our guides are trained in mountain first aid and carry a full first aid kit.

We operate treks & climbs with a high staff to client ratio to ensure top quality service and also to enable us to safely evacuate any injured or ill client back to Huaraz with one of our staff in the shortest possible time, without affecting the trekking or climbing enjoyment of the other clients in the group.

When to go Trekking and Climbing in Peru

The Peru Trekking, Hiking and climbing season is better with more settled weather. Generally speaking this is from May until September. 6000m and technical peaks can generally only be climbed from June to August.
We also organise treks and climbs of 5000m peaks & non technical peaks from October until April and special low season rates apply.

We will organise Peru treks or climbs for one person up to groups of 20 or more. If you are traveling alone, we can advertise your dates on our website JOIN A GROUP Page and co-ordinate and form a group with other people. Unless the group is a privately organised group of friends, our normal maximum group size is 6 to 8 people.

Travel To Huaraz:

Travel from Lima is by high class tourist bus (7.5 hours on a good paved highway) or there is a daily flight on a small 19 seat aircraft. You can also travel between Huaraz and Trujillo by tourist bus (night bus).

All of our Peru tours, trek & climb programs for the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash start and finish in Huaraz. Add extra days for international flights, travel between Lima and Huaraz and acclimatisation days in Huaraz.

Responsible Tourism & Environmental Care
Peruvian Andes Adventures recognises the need to care for our fragile environment and to operate responsible tourism in order to protect our history, culture and environment for future generations.
We have developed a responsible tourism policy which we are slowly introducing to our trekking crews and local communities. It takes time to change entrenched thinking and decades old practices and change cannot be forced. We have however made a start and are training our crews in sound environmental practices, speaking with local communities and in this way little by little hope to improve practices in the areas and in the communities that we work with.

See our Peru Treks Responsible Tourism page.
